3 teens accused of causing train wreck in Delano

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Three teenagers were arrested early Tuesday in Delano for allegedly parking a stolen vehicle on railroad tracks, causing a crash with a freight train.

The Kern County Sheriff's Office said deputies were sent around 1:30 a.m. to tracks in the area of Cecil Avenue and Highway 43. The suspects were found in the area, the sheriff's office said.

Evan Ortega, 18, was booked into jail on suspicion of vehicle theft, damaging railroad tracks, placing an obstruction on railroad tracks, causing a train wreck, providing false information to a peace officer and conspiracy.

Two 17-year-old suspects were booked into juvenile hall on similar charges, the sheriff's office said.
