Suspected Bakersfield cellphone thief arrested in Stockton

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A 16-year-old boy from Oakland is suspected of stealing merchandise from a pair of Verizon Wireless stores in Bakersfield.

Zachary Mapp was arrested in Stockton for a similar offense late last week, Bakersfield police said Wednesday night.

Detectives from Bakersfield went to Stockton this week, and Mapp admitted to the Bakersfield crimes, police said.

The two Bakersfield stores - 10900 Stockdale Highway and 1220 Oak St. - were stolen from July 31. Mapp even allegedly threatened employees with pepper spray at one location, police said.

Phones and tablets were taken.
