BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A special screening of the 1982 animated fantasy "The Last Unicorn" will be held 7 p.m. Friday at the Valley Plaza 16. It will mark the first showing of the film in Bakersfield in 30 years, and author Peter S. Beagle will be there to meet fans and sign memorabilia.
"The Last Unicorn" film has sold more than 5 million home video copies around the world in the last six years, but moviegoers will be treated to a new 2K digital cinema print.
The movie features the voice-talent of actors Christopher Lee, Mia Farrow, Jeff Bridges, Alan Arkin, Angela Lansbury and Rene Auberjenois. The score and songs were written by Jimmy Webb and the soundtrack was recorded by the pop group America.
The Bakersfield screening is part of a worldwide tour that began in 2013 on Beagle's birthday. It will continue for 8-12 days a month through the end of 2015 according to tour spokesman Connor Cochran. Costumes are encouraged and could be rewarded.
