BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A 51-year-old man was found unresponsive around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday inside his jail cell at the Central Receiving Facility in downtown Bakersfield.

Ruben Ornelas was pronounced dead shortly after that at Mercy Hospital, the Kern County Sheriff's Office said. Deputies and jail nursing staff administered CPR until firefighters and ambulance crews arrived, and Ornelas was taken to the hospital.
